Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kenya Lionesses have moved up to 25th in the latest world rugby rankings.<\/p>\n

The 23-3 win over Uganda in the Africa Cup Pool B tournament in Kampala saw them move from 27th position to 25\u2014overtaking Colombia and Madagascar.<\/p>\n

South Africa remains the highest-ranked African side at position 13 in the world. England and New Zealand who face each in the World Cup final on Saturday at Eden Park in Auckland are the top two teams in the world.<\/p>\n

World Cup semifinalists Canada and France occupy third and fourth with Italy in fifth place. Australia, the USA, Ireland, Wales, and Scotland complete the top 10 teams in the world.<\/p>\n

Kenya will face South Africa and Namibia next year in Pool ‘A’ and KRU director of women’s rugby, Peris Mukoko-Wanyaga said the event will be the launching pad for the Rugby World Cup in 2025.<\/p>\n

“We do have the momentum from winning in Kampala and looking ahead, the future is very bright for the girls as we look at qualifying for the Rugby World Cup in three years’ time,” she noted.<\/p>\n

She added that the building blocks have been put in place to create depth for the Lionesses with the Kenya Cup women’s league starting next month.<\/p>\n

“We want to have as many players as possible playing for the national team and having the league is just the start as we explore other options.”<\/p>\n
