Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Members of the National Assembly have threaten to go on a strike over Constituency Development Fund (CDF).<\/p>\n

The legislators have said they will be on a go slow if CDF is not disbursed to their respective constituencies before the expected recess.<\/p>\n

Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi asked parliamentarians not to engage in any business of the house if the funds are not disbursed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not an empty threat, failure to do that I will be moving members of the House to refrain from any talk of recess and secondly to refrain from any engagements on any business, until and unless NG-CDF funds are disbursed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He also asked the speaker to direct the Majority Leader to engage the Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung’u on the matter.<\/p>\n

Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa agreed with his colleague saying he will engage with the Executive on the matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is nobody in the Executive who should imagine that you are doing any MP a favour by disbursing CDF, the funds go directly to the people, our people are not waiting for us to go on recess, they want us to go and process their bursaries for term one school fees,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In August, the Supreme Court of Kenya declared CDF illegal.<\/p>\n

The apex court ruled that allowing MPs to manage the funds is against the Division of Revenue and Public Finance law.<\/p>\n

\u201cA declaration is hereby made that the Constituency Development Fund Act, 2013 is unconstitutional,\u201d the verdict given by the five-judge bench read in part.<\/p>\n
