Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has said that the current National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang\u2019ula become the speaker courtesy of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) MPs.<\/p>\n

Khalwale says that Wetang\u2019ula required the support of the Kenya Kwanza MPs to win the Speaker contest.<\/p>\n

Khalwale was speaking on Thursday at Bungoma County IEBC offices when the UDA Senatorial aspirant Mwambu Mabonga was presenting his papers to the commission to be given a nod to run for the seat.<\/p>\n

The Senate Chief whip argues that the Bungoma Senate seat should go to the UDA party calling on Bungoma voters to back Mwambu\u2019s bid.<\/p>\n

He said that Wetang\u2019ula could not have become the Speaker if he was only backed by Ford Kenya MPs.<\/p>\n

The UDA Senator added that Western Kenya has reaped big in the Kenya Kwanza government saying Kenyans should support President Ruto to deliver on his promises.<\/p>\n

The Chief whip pointed out that he has been given the mandate by the government to come in and campaign for Mwambu Mabonga.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday I would have been in the Senate seriously debating but the government has given me an okay to come here and escort our candidate to the IEBC to present papers,\u201d Khalwale added.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cWe are going to employ everything possible to ensure that UDA bags this Bungoma seat,\u201d<\/p>\n

He urged Bungoma people not to send contradicting statements to President William Ruto saying that they should support one Kenya Kwanza candidate.<\/p>\n

On the Presidential term limit, Khalwale dismissed claims by Fafi MP saying that even the President has no plan to extend the term limit.<\/p>\n

He added that the Kenya Kwanza government will work constitutionally.<\/p>\n

He added that the constitution grants every Kenyan freedom of speech saying that Fafi MP was only giving his views.<\/p>\n

He said that the President will only serve for ten years and elections are done after every five years.<\/p>\n

On his part, Mwambu Mabonga told the Star that he is now free to crisscross the county and ask Bungoma voters to back his Senatorial bid.<\/p>\n

Other Senatorial aspirants are scheduled to present their papers Thursday afternoon and Friday.<\/p>\n

Those scheduled to present papers tomorrow include Wafula Wakoli (Ford Kenya), Robert Sifuna (The Roots party), Elias Sikuku (Peoples Empowerment party), Wafula Wamunyinyi (Azimio la Umoja One Kenya) and Geoffrey Wanyonyi (NOPEU-P).<\/p>\n
