Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The EACC has said it will institute proceedings in court to recover more than Sh100 million illegally acquired by a former government employee.<\/p>\n

Abdi Mohamed Daib, a former Kenya Ports Authority employee is said to have secured his employment by presenting fake academic certificates.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the commission said it was completing the probe against the individual with a view to having him charged and surcharged.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe commission finalising the investigation targeting the employee for the offences of forgery, uttering a false document and fraudulent acquisition of public property,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n

The move by the Ethics and Anticorruption Commission comes in the wake of a landmark case it jointly won with the authority against the former employee.<\/p>\n

It also comes amidst concerns by the agency over increased rampant falsification and forgery of academic certificates.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe trend is appalling and a threat to the integrity of our education system as well as compromising the value of public services in this country, if left unchecked,\u201d an advisory signed by deputy CEO Abdi Mohamud reads.<\/p>\n

It was addressed to all heads of institutions of higher learning.<\/p>\n

The letter dated October 11 calls on the heads to have collaborative and innovative approaches in adopting measures that will help deter the vice on the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease apprise us of the measures considered in implementing this advisory, the commission will also be available to offer any assistance,\u201d if further reads.<\/p>\n
