Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Ex- Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi has been cleared by the IEBC to run for Bungoma senator in the by- election slated for December 8.<\/p>\n

Wamunyinyi said out of the ten eyeing the senatorial seat, he is the only visionary candidate able to replace National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang\u2019ula.<\/p>\n

The DAP-K leader spoke at the IEBC offices in Bungoma on Friday.<\/p>\n

He asked his opponents to keep peace during the by- election.<\/p>\n

Former Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa who was also present lauded Wamunyinyi for being cleared by the commission.<\/p>\n

He said Azimio La Umoja One Kenya landed on Wamunyinyi to be the flag bearer.<\/p>\n

The former CS praised Wamunyinyi for being a seasoned and experienced leader in the region asking Bungoma residents to back his bid.<\/p>\n

Wamalwa further urged Bungoma residents to keep peace despite coming from different political affiliations.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the August polls we had incidents where people were shot dead and others murdered in unclear circumstances. This time, we don\u2019t want to engage in the push and pull,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Former Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu lauded the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya leaders for accepting to back Wamunyinyi\u2019s bid for Bungoma senator.<\/p>\n

\u201cWamunyinyi was officially endorsed by our Azimio patron Raila Odinga,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Simiyu further asked the IEBC to conduct a free and fair election.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have done our own investigations and noted that the August polls was marred by irregularities. This time, we don\u2019t entertain such,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Wamunyinyi said he has a clean track record and the people of Kanduyi can attest to his work.<\/p>\n

He said he has always been on the forefront in fighting for farmers\u2019 interests.<\/p>\n

Wamunyinyi said if elected, he will take the opportunity to complete the projects he started while an MP.<\/p>\n

He said he will also do a follow up on the sugar bill that has hit a stalemate in the Senate.<\/p>\n

Mumias East lawmaker Peter Salasia told the Star that Bungoma needs to elect a senator from the Azimio faction.<\/p>\n

\u201cI ask my Bungoma people to copy paste what we the residents of Kakamega did on both the governor and Senate seat. Please cast your votes in the Azimio bucket in this by- election,\u201d Salasia said.<\/p>\n
