Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said cases of those people who were falsely accused should be dropped.<\/p>\n

He said this in reference to his Sh7.5 billion graft case that was withdrawn by the DPP for lack of evidence.<\/p>\n

Speaking during a thanksgiving service at ASK Show Ground in Baringo, he thanked the DPP for dropping his graft case but urged him to consider all those who were falsely accused.<\/p>\n

“Withdrawing my case is not enough, more cases should be dropped for all those who were accused falsely because it is a big mistake to fault someone based on their political affiliation,” he said.<\/p>\n

Gachagua added that he was implicated in the graft case because he was supporting President William Ruto.<\/p>\n

Magistrate Victor Wakumile said the evidence presented should be able to prove a case under reasonable doubt.<\/p>\n

In allowing the DPP application, Wakumile said one can\u2019t prefer charges on the anticipation of getting evidence.<\/p>\n

He faulted the investigative bodies for presenting people in court while they are still fishing for evidence.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe decision to charge must be exercised partially and independently,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNever should a judicial system be used as a doormat. There is a need to respect institutions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The court said the Sh12 million bail Gachagua deposited in court as a condition for his release when he was charged should be returned to him.<\/p>\n
