Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>A former member of the Trans Nzoia County Assembly was on Thursday charged with abuse of office and conflict of interest.<\/p>\n

The ex-MCA who was part of the county assembly’s leadership is accused of sitting on the interviewing panel and employing his daughter without declaring conflict of interest.<\/p>\n

“He participated in the interview and employment of his daughter as a Committee Clerk in the County Assembly without disclosing his interest as required by law,” EACC said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The accused is a Member of the Kitale County Assembly Service Board.<\/p>\n

He was charged at the Kitale Anti-Corruption Court before Chief Magistrate Julias Ng’arng’ar.<\/p>\n

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission said he was charged with four counts upon arraignment following his arrest on Thursday.<\/p>\n

He allegedly committed the offence in August 2013.<\/p>\n

On the first count, he is accused of abuse of office contrary to Article 6 of the Constitution on Leadership and Integrity.<\/p>\n

On the second, third and fourth counts, he was accused of failure to disclose private interest by interviewing and shortlisting his daughter for the post of Committee Clerk 1 without informing the County Assembly Service Board over the same.<\/p>\n

“Whilst knowing that the County Assembly of Trans Nzoia was not aware of your private interest in the interviewing and employing of your daughter, failed to disclose your interest and participated in the deliberations with respect to the interview,” the charges read.<\/p>\n

The ex-ward rep denied the charges and was released on a Sh300,000 bond or cash bail of Sh100,000.<\/p>\n

The matter will be mentioned on December 7.<\/p>\n
