Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has spoken about his academic level, hitting out at those who assume he was “primitive.”<\/p>\n

Gachagua said going through university to the point of graduating was not a light process.<\/p>\n

“You know graduating is not a joke. I’m happy because when we were campaigning, hawa watu ya magazeti na social media (newspaper people and social media) were trying to portray me as somebody who was not learned.<\/p>\n

“Until nilienda ile debate nikaporomosha kizungu wakajua mimi nimesoma (I went to the presidential running mate debate and my English proved I was learned).”<\/p>\n

Gachagua spoke on Saturday at Outspan Medical College in Nyeri, during a graduation ceremony.<\/p>\n

The DP named some of the well known people he had attended school with.<\/p>\n

He mentioned Dedan Kimathi University vice chancellor Prof Ndirangu Kioni, saying the academician was a very apt student.<\/p>\n

“We went to school with him from Form 1 to Form 4, from 1978 to 1981. Kioni is a witness that I went to high school, ” he said,<\/p>\n

Gachagua said Linus Gitai could confirm that he attended the University of Nairobi for his Bachelor degree from 1985 to 1988.<\/p>\n

“So wale mlikuwa mnasema sijasoma mmesikia.(So to those who said I was not learned. You’ve heard it),” he said.<\/p>\n

He added that he had enrolled for a Masters Programme in International relations with a bias to Conflict Management but he dropped it to concentrate on politics.<\/p>\n

“Along the way when things settle down, I’ll enrol for that programme,”Gachagua said.<\/p>\n

During the ceremony attended by Health CS Susan Wafula, 415 graduates were awarded from various disciplines including nursing, clinical medicine, health records, psychology, health service support and nutrition and dietetics.<\/p>\n
