Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>An environmental conservation organisation has partnered with a local university to encourage forest preservation.<\/p>\n

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Tangaza University College joined hands and established a platform for the youths in and out of campus to promote responsible forest management.<\/p>\n

Aside from students, the partnership has also incorporated local artists to create awareness on importance of protecting forests.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will also be having tree planting demos and instructions on how to plant and care for a tree,\u201d said Rose Kerubo, a chapter leader of the Laudato Si Movement- a global organisation whose mission is to inspire and mobilise the Catholic community to care for the environment.<\/p>\n

Kerubo said the platform will also develop action plans and activities that will be taken for each individual to participate in environment conservation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will also be emphasizing on the need to plant more indigenous trees,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Other partners are Institute for Social Transformation and Tulivu and Afro Beat Band.<\/p>\n

The Forest Stewardship Council is an international non-profit, multi-stakeholder organisation established in 1993 that promotes responsible management of the world’s forests, via timber certification.<\/p>\n

It is an example of a market-based certification program used as a transnational environmental policy<\/p>\n

Founded in Bonn Germany, FSC enables businesses and consumers to make informed choices about the forest products they buy and create positive change in the forest products market.<\/p>\n

During the launch of the partnership, a film inspired film by Pope Francis to address temperature and weather pattern shifts was screened.<\/p>\n

The film, \u201cThe Letter – A Message for our Earth\u201d premiered at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa on 16 October.<\/p>\n

The film was released on October 4, 2022, with the first global premiere at the Vatican. It registered over 2 million views on Youtube in the first week of its release.<\/p>\n
