Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Iranian Ambassador to Kenya Jafar Barmaki, Monday, paid a courtesy call to the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang\u2019ula to discuss more possible partnerships.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a country we value the good trade relationship that the two countries have had even during difficult times,” Barmaki said.<\/p>\n

“I can recall sometime back when we used to have a group called clean ocean dream that used to be very vocal in matters trade.”<\/p>\n

Barmaki emphasised on proper banking system between Kenya and Iran to promote ease of doing business between traders of the two nations.<\/p>\n

Having been in the country for the past three years, he lauded Kenya for supporting the intergrity of a free state to enhance human development despite the Iranian government living under sanctions.<\/p>\n

He further applauded Kenyans for the peaceful elections witnessed on August 9, saying the country’s democracy has matured and come of age.<\/p>\n

The ambassador indicated that there was need to have direct trade in various sectors of agriculture that will see Kenyan tea exported to Iran.<\/p>\n

Barmaki further said there are more than 40 Iranian companies with new technologies ready and willing to invest in the country.<\/p>\n

Wetangula promised to enhance good bilateral ties by having MPS from the two countries take part in exchange programmes to learn from each other.<\/p>\n

\u201cKenya is going through a difficult drought season especially in the Northeastern region, however, we remain optimistic to finding lasting solutions to this challenge,” Wetang’ula said.<\/p>\n

“We are looking forward to partner with Iran on having good fertiliser for our famers that will be readily available and at an affordable price to enhance good yields and food security,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Wetangula acknowledged that Kenya needs to partner with Iran in ICT technology advancement, medical equipment and research.<\/p>\n
