Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Raila Educational Primary School got a shot in the arm after the Palestinian Embassy in Nairobi donated furnished a computer lab.<\/p>\n

The Embassy donated 15 computers, furniture and a projector, setting up a new computer lab at the school at the heart of Kibra slums.<\/p>\n

The donation was led by the Palestine Ambassador to Kenya Hazem Shabat while flanked by former area MP Ken Okoth and Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the event, the primary school head teacher Emmy Amugune said the lab would help the school catapult tech skills for both learners and teachers.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has fixed everything for us and we are very happy because we have been teaching ICT lessons using our phones and the lower primary gadgets but this donation will help expand the scope of learning,\u201d Amugune said.<\/p>\n

The school is among several in Kibra with pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds benefiting from infrastructure developments from the Embassy and other partners.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I came in 2018 it was a disaster, the classes were made of iron sheets but now we are progressing well,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

On his part, the envoy noted the computer lab will go a long way in improving students\u2019 ICT knowledge and capabilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe the future of Kenya can be secured through education and empowering the new generation capable of handling the challenges of the new economies, new business fields and fill in new knowledge gaps that are emerging so we have to bridge that gap and empower these students at a very young age,\u201d Shabat said.<\/p>\n

The school was initiated by ODM leader Raila Odinga.<\/p>\n

It later developed from being a community school to a public one through the use of CDF funds.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are in the digital age and this is something they will use for an educational experience,\u201d Shabat added.<\/p>\n

To foster partnerships between the Kenyan and Palestine governments, he noted that the embassy is engaged in others schools in Kibra to empower them and make them more capable of delivering better education to the digital generation.<\/p>\n

Former area MP Imran thanked the embassy saying they have been key in improving education standards in the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to make sure our young people especially from the slum area are introduced to digital literacy in early life as most of them access computers in high schools or university,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
