Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The government has set aside Sh600 million to help in the fight against doping in the next five years.<\/p>\n

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba said the increased funding will boost Anti-doping Agency of Kenya (Adak) operations as well as intensify intelligence gathering.<\/p>\n

“We have set aside the monies to help fight this vice and ensure our athletes run clean going forward,” Namwamba noted adding that this will also help Adak boost their testing pool.<\/p>\n

The former Budalangi Member of Parliament said the arrest and arraignment of Thomas Kipyatich alias Ali Thamer Kamal in an Eldoret court on Monday.<\/p>\n

Kipyatich was charged with falsely pretending to be an employee of the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya contrary to Section 382 of the Criminal Procedure Code.<\/p>\n

Namwamba said he is confident the country will not face further sanctions from Athletics Integrity Unit and World Athletics.<\/p>\n

“I have had fruitful discussions with World Athletics president Seb Coe and I have informed him of our scaled up efforts to fight doping in the country,” said Namwamba, while putting violators on notice.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will make doping very expensive for those involved. We are coming for you and you will have no place to hide going forward.”<\/p>\n

The country has seen an increasing number of doping cases in the last three months with the likes of Kiprop Renju, Felix Kipchumba, Emmanuel Saina and Philemon Kacheran suspended.<\/p>\n

Athletics Kenya president Jackson Tuwei said the move to increase funding for Adak couldn’t have come at a better time.<\/p>\n

“The increased funding will go a long way in boosting our efforts in fighting the vice,” noted Tuwei.<\/p>\n

He urged athletes to run clean and do the country proud.<\/p>\n

Currently, AK have intensified anti-doping education, targeting young junior athletes.<\/p>\n
