Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kenya\u2019s former President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged the East African Community (EAC) leaders to put in every possible effort to end the crisis facing the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) caused by their conflict with the government forces (FARDC) and the M23 rebels.<\/p>\n

Kenyatta who is a mediator in ending the conflict made the call during the EAST African Community (EAC) \u2013 Led Nairobi Process, on restoration of peace and security in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) \u2013 Third Inter-Congolese dialogue that kicked off on Monday in Nairobi, Kenya and appealed to the both sides to give peace a chance.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo effort should be spared in restoring peace and security in Eastern DRC. Kwa wana-DRC, Amani itatoka kwenye nyinyi wenyewe! Tuungane!\u201d The Facilitator of the EAC- Led Nairobi Process, Uhuru Kenyatta said.<\/p>\n

Rwandan President, Paul Kagame who attended virtually, said it is about time the community addresses the root cause of insecurity in the Eastern DRC once and for all while saying that his country is committed to the restoration of its peace.<\/p>\n

On his part, the Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni said the joint efforts of the EAC is big enough to end the problem and restore peace to their fellow members.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese armed groups causing insecurity can be defeated if we harmonise efforts. We need to deal with the problem of illegal guns in Eastern DRC,\u201d President Museveni said.<\/p>\n

Last week regional leaders agreed on a ceasefire following intense fighting between DR Congo\u2019s army and the M23 rebel group in North Kivu province.<\/p>\n

The situation was reportedly calm over the weekend.<\/p>\n
