Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Following the recent threat to ban Kenya over the increasing doping cases, the National Police Service has warned their athletes to desist from engaging in the vice.<\/p>\n

Lately, the National Police Service has collaborated with the Anti-doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) to sensitise their athletes against the vice.<\/p>\n

NPS has issued a stern warning that disciplinary action shall be taken against any athlete who violates the anti-doping regulations.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a seminar in Eldoret, Assistant Inspector General of Police Stephen Etiang said the country is facing accusations of widespread use of performance-enhancing drugs and NPS, a goose that lays the golden eggs in athletics, is in the process of structuring measures to tame violators within their ranks.<\/p>\n

“NPS has been conducting seminars against the vice and the only way the war will be won is for the athletes to commit to promoting clean sports and integrity. As Police, we will be issuing guidelines and disciplinary action to be taken if our athletes violate the guidelines,” said Etiang.<\/p>\n

Kenneth Kimani, the Chief Instructor at Kiganjo Police Training College, urged the athletes to uphold their morals.<\/p>\n

“We must join hands and fight the vice. It’s a global shame. At the moment, the world doesn’t trust us. Branding and image are very important and we must protect Kenya’s name by not engaging in doping,” said Kimani.<\/p>\n

“We are ambassadors of our country and, therefore, we shouldn’t spoil its name. Be morally upright. Those athletes who violate the anti-doping rules and are still undergoing training will be automatically dismissed.”<\/p>\n

He added: “There is no doubt that doping in sports is a matter of public interest and deserves an appropriate response. We hope this seminar will enable us make a more significant contribution to anti-doping.”<\/p>\n

“As an athlete, you have anti-doping responsibilities to safeguard the future of Kenyan athletics. If we don’t, we will suffer as a country,” he concluded.<\/p>\n
