Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Scramble for customers in Kenyas electronic market share has intensified with players now forced to innovate to keep up with the competition.<\/p>\n

Rather than the traditional market trend where electronic manufacturers and dealership could only offer a warranty, changing consumer preferences and knowledge is now tilting the scale as they demand more.<\/p>\n

In the mobile telephones category, data shows that more Kenyans are buying expensive smartphones and television sets than ever before, a shift that has seen the dealers stock them.<\/p>\n

Electronics manufacturer Samsung, told The Star that Kenyans are buying TV\u2019s in the range of Sh80,000 and Sh700,000.<\/p>\n

Demand for the 55-inch TV\u2019s is increasing while demand for the 32-inch TV\u2019s has recorded a decline.<\/p>\n

Sam Odhiambo, head of consumer electronics division at Samsung points out that with the increasing number of premium customers, they expect more than just buying a product.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe assume those who are buying the 55-inch had the 30-inch before and are now upgrading,\u201d Odhiambo said.<\/p>\n

One of the things they have introduced recently is a 20-year warranty.<\/p>\n

This is for their digital inverter for our washing machines and refrigerators from the entry-level ones all the way to the top.<\/p>\n

“For us, this gives our customers assurance that we are confident in the quality of our products and we can assure them that they will remain fault free for over 20 years,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

In Kenya, TVs, refrigerators, washing machines, microwave ovens, air conditioners and vacuum cleaners are key categories in the consumer electronics segment.<\/p>\n

The country\u2019s growing middle class has seen appliances like refrigerators and washing machines, which were previously deemed a luxury, now become key in most households.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have seen an increase in the 200 litre refrigerators and we owe this increase to the growth in families hence the need for more storage space,” Odhiambo said.<\/p>\n

Demand for washing machines has been on the rise since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the numbers have been on an upward trajectory.<\/p>\n

“People are buying all kinds of washing machines from the entry-level that sells at Sh75,000 to those that sell for Sh350,000 \u201d added Odhiambo.<\/p>\n

According to Statista, revenue in the consumer electronics segment was projected to reach Sh129.3 billion in 2022, with the number of users expected to amount to 21.7 mm users by 2027.<\/p>\n

The key five categories of the market\u2014 reconstructors, boomers, generation-X, millenials and the iBrain \u2013 are a key determinant of consumer habits.<\/p>\n

Each age set determines the spending, growth and usage of electronics.<\/p>\n

The lucrative Kenyan electronics market has continued to lure global electronic manufacturers, who are now increasing the availability of their consumer electronics in the market at competitive prices.<\/p>\n

LG Electronics East Africa managing director Kim Sa-nyoung says the company has diversified its payment options, to offer customers flexibility in acquiring home appliances.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis means, for every product purchased at the LG branded shops, customers are guaranteed free delivery, free installation, 2 years warranty, and will be assured of quality products that can be paid for through various payment methods,\u201d said Kim<\/p>\n

The competition has seen TCL Electronics, the Global No.2 LCD TV brand and home appliances maker increase its footprint in the region with the launch of its new C Series TV line-up and home appliances into the Kenya market.<\/p>\n

TCL unveiled the latest home appliances, air conditioners and fridges among its newest range of intelligent IoT appliances that can be controlled remotely and intelligently through the TCL Home App.<\/p>\n

Kenyan-designed electronic brand Vision Plus is also stepping up on its modern technologies across its products to tap into Kenya\u2019s competitive consumer electronics market.<\/p>\n

The firm recently announced a partnership that will see customers of its premium smart TVs handed 3 months of premium subscription video on demand platform Showmax for Free<\/p>\n
