Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Thika Queens are worried about the threat posed by Trans-Nzoia Falcons as the two sides square it out in the Women’s Premier League opener at Kenyatta Stadium, Kitale, Saturday. Two-time WPL champions Thika are, however, prepared to face their bogey rivals if coach Joseph Oyoo is to be believed.<\/p>\n

Falcons have proved a hard nut to crack especially in their backyard but Queens are in good shape after their exploits in the pre-season but will have to play according to Oyoo’s script.<\/p>\n

“The girls are in good shape and raring to go. It is hard to gauge players in the first match but we have to be prepared for a tough encounter,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Our record is not the best against them but that could change. They are a quality team that can run you ragged if you aren’t prepared,” he added. Thika are likely to be without two of their new signings from Uganda subject to late clearance from the federation.<\/p>\n

“We are still waiting for communication from the relevant authorities. Their documents haven’t been approved. The International Transfer Certificate needs to be cleared by the Uganda Federation. Technically, they are out.”<\/p>\n

“We also have two fringe players on the treatment table but that won’t affect us much.”<\/p>\n

Thika finished third last season and their failure to defend their title also saw coach Benta Achieng quit her duties by mutual consent as Oyoo took over.<\/p>\n

The Kiambu derby pits Zetech Sparks against Ulinzi Starlets. The two sides rekindle their rivalry in what promises to be a high-octane affair at the Gems Cambridge.<\/p>\n

The soldiers have laid bare their title ambitions after finishing second last season. Ulinzi lost just once but the eight draws allowed champions Vihiga to win the title by more than 10 points gap. At ASK Grounds Nakuru, hosts Nakuru welcome Gaspo. Both sides have lost key players but new signings are expected to claim starting roles.<\/p>\n
