Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo now says the suspension of the four dissenting IEBC officers symbolises the end of independent institutions.<\/p>\n

Otiende said the move was meant to bring an end to the institutions and their protection as dictated by the Kenyan law.<\/p>\n

“To MPs, commissions, NGOs, diplomats and churches; it\u2019s not about the IEBC four. It\u2019s the end of independent offices and their constitutional protection. You\u2019ll all realise when it\u2019s too late. The power of precedent! mark my words,” he said in a statement on Friday.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, MPs voted to have the four commissioners removed from office after a recommendation by the deciding committee.<\/p>\n

The four are vice chairperson Juliana Cherera, Justus Nyang\u2019aya, Francis Wanderi and Irene Masit.<\/p>\n

Justice and Legal Affairs Committee confirmed that the four petitions seeking the removal of the four met the threshold for them to be kicked out of office.<\/p>\n

Following the vote by the National Assembly, President William Ruto on Friday appointed a tribunal to investigate the commissioners.<\/p>\n

It will be chaired by High Court judge Aggrey Muchelule, with the lead counsel as Peter Munge Murage.<\/p>\n

“The mandate of the tribunal shall be to consider the petition for the removal of the commissioners as members of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and to inquire into the allegations therein,” the President said in a gazette notice.<\/p>\n

They IEBC four are accused of attempting to change the will of voters after disowning the August 9 presidential results as declared by IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati.<\/p>\n
