Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President William Ruto has said demonstrations and rallies by the opposition are nothing new. He said for as long as Azimio leader Raila Odinga has been in the opposition, there have always been plans for demonstrations and protests.<\/p>\n

Ruto said the opposition consists of the same people who have always held protests and riots to hold the nation captive. \u201cThey have seen Hustler fund is here, subsidised fertiliser is here and Kenyans are prospering so they feel intimidated,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Raila had called for mass action to protest the suspension of four IEBC commissioners who differed with chairman Wafula Chebukati over the August poll presidential results. National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi said the rallies would be held on December 7 after they were postponed due to national exams.<\/p>\n

Speaking in Embu County during an Inter-denominational Church service at Embu University, Ruto said he has asked Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to ask the opposition about their schedule.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to know where they will be held, when and for how many years so we can provide security for them, to avoid destruction of property,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The President said they are already used to them but this time, they will not allow them to cripple the country. \u201cOur plan is to revive the economy, build affordable housing, provide a market for our products and affordable credit to Kenyans,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ruto said protests or not, they shall continue to do so. \u201cThese people don’t want our country to prosper. You will not blackmail Kenyans or hold them hostage anymore,\u201d he said. The President said Kenyans need to come together and save themselves from such tyranny.<\/p>\n
