Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Thunder coach Sadat Gaya hopes his charges will maintain the momentum they have built during the Kenya National Basketball League despite next week’s break.<\/p>\n

Speaking after his team’s weekend tour of Eldoret and Kisumu, the tactician said the cohesion they build away was critical.<\/p>\n

“The away games came at a good time for us. The two days we spent together as a team were critical for our momentum.”<\/p>\n

However, Gaya is worried that with the break coming up next week, it will be a big challenge to put the team back into focus. Thunder beat Kisumu Lakeside 63-59 at the Manyatta Arab courts.<\/p>\n

The home team led 28-21 at the breather. Captain Griffin Ligare led Thunder onslaught, scoring 27 points while Derrick Juma added 16. For the losers, Justus Okitoyi led the side with 19.<\/p>\n

Thunder were grounded 74-66 by the Platinum Eldonets side in their other fixture at the Uasin Gishu Primary School courts in Eldoret.<\/p>\n

“We took three quarters to get in the game and in the fourth quarter, we evened the scores. Then we couldn’t close the game. We started ok, in the fourth Kisumu took the lead before we came back and forced overtime,” Gaya explained<\/p>\n

At the Strathmore University Sports Complex, Equity Bank Dumas proved too strong for Umoja, pounding them 77-39. Kenya Morans’ duo of Victor Bosire and Victor Ochieng provided the much-needed tonic to sink 17 points each for the bankers.<\/p>\n

In the women’s top tie, hosts Strathmore University Swords cut sad Eagle Wings 71-45 after a strong 34-16 halftime scoreline. Joy Mupalia scored the opening seven points and wound up with 17 while Millicent Achieng added 10 for ‘Strath’.<\/p>\n

In the lower division matches, the visiting Western Delight lost 52-26 to Coastal Queens and 65-38 to United States International University. Butere Girls High School team won two games, thumping Footprints 44-17 and hitting Coastal Queens 52-44.<\/p>\n
