Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and its CEO Wilson Aruasa have won awards. They were feted during the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management SPURS excellence awards for outstanding performance in public procurement.<\/p>\n

Dr Aruasa won the \u201cUnsung Hero Award of the Year\u201d, while the hospital was awarded for ICT innovations. Head of Public Service Felix Kosgei presided over the awards ceremony.<\/p>\n

\u201cPersonal commitment, zeal and transparency in public procurement leads to a huge transformation of institutions,\u201d Aruasa said. He said he was grateful to be honoured along with the hospital.<\/p>\n

Dr Aruasa said the foundation of public procurement was founded in Article 227 of the Constitution of Kenya, Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act (PPADA), 2015 and Regulations 2020 plus Institutional Policies.<\/p>\n

He said the principle was open and transparent public procurement that brings about competition, value for money and efficient processes. The CEO said MTRH, through the support of the national government and other partners, had invested billions in infrastructure, medical equipment, ICT and medical commodities\/ health products and technologies.<\/p>\n

He said has enabled the hospital to deliver high quality specialised healthcare, training and research. Aruasa said the hospital also contributed to the national health policy through the Ministry of Health.<\/p>\n

\u201cMTRH has thus played its rightful role in pursuing universal health coverage for Kenya and beyond,\u201d he said. Kosgei outlined the importance of good management of processes and systems, which he said leads to the success of institutions.<\/p>\n

A few months ago, Dr Aruasa and the hospital were recognised by the Kenya Medical Association for distinguished performance in the health sector. MTRH was recently ranked the top brand in healthcare in the country following a survey by an international customer experience firm, Ajua.<\/p>\n

Dr Aruasa said they were grateful for the support the hospital received from the Ministry of Health, the government, the patients and communities the hospital serves, the media and local partnering institutions including NHIF and Moi University.<\/p>\n

The hospital serves more than 25 counties in the western half of Kenya and has partnerships with the counties led by Uasin Gishu. It also has international partners including Shoe 4 Africa Foundation (New York, USA), Indiana University (Indiana, USA), the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, among many others.<\/p>\n

With a bed capacity of more than 1,200, the hospital leads in handling diseases including cancer. Dr Aruasa has steered the facility to one of the best managed in the region and the hospital has played a critical role in training health workers for counties in the country.<\/p>\n

His diligent service has earned him several state commendations in the recent past and his management style has also seen the hospital cultivate a rare strong relationship between the management and the employees of the hospital.<\/p>\n

Last month, Dr Aruasa led the hospital in signing CBA agreements with all unions representing workers at the hospital. It\u2019s the only public institution that has done so.<\/p>\n
