Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Ex-powerful Jubilee vice-chair David Murathe is back to the political limelight with a bang, hinting at a fresh war with President William Ruto. The former Gatanga MP has been in political obscurity since President Ruto was declared the winner of the August polls.<\/p>\n

A foremost critic of the president, Murathe who wielded immense power during Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime, has hinted at his furious comeback. On Monday, Murathe made a surprise appearance at a presser organised by Azimio leader Raila Odinga and Narc Kenya boss Martha Karua.<\/p>\n

Murathe used the opportunity to signal another political confrontation with Ruto after failing to block his ascension to the presidency. \u201cThese so-called new kids on the block have been in government, there is nothing new they will offer,\u201dMurathe charged.<\/p>\n

Murathe on Monday gave the clearest indication that he will fully participate in the opposition campaigns against President Ruto’s administration. \u201cI will be part of the Azimio maandamano because my conscience doesn\u2019t allow me to sit back and watch Kenyans being caucused. We will have no Kenya soon if we give them time,\u201d Muratha stated.<\/p>\n

He also said Kenyans should not sit back and watch the country go to the \u2018dogs\u2019. Murathe, a close confidant of Uhuru, evoked memories of his botched, yet aggressive political war against the president.<\/p>\n

He was at the centre of Uhuru’s spirited campaign to stop Ruto from succeeding him and previously affirmed that Ruto would never be president. In 2020, Murathe had declared that Ruto would never be President describing him as \u201cunsuitable\u201d.<\/p>\n

On September 2, 2020, Murathe said it was impossible for Ruto to participate and win a presidential race in which he lacks the baton. \u201cMambo bado, hii ni kionjo tu. You wait, atajua hajui (It is still too early, you\u2019ve only witnessed a test-run. We\u2019ll prove to him that he\u2019s not as smart as he thinks),\u201d Murathe said during an interview at a local Tv station.<\/p>\n

The former Gatanga MP was once a darling of the media as he rallied Kenyans to \u201cprepare for a Mandela moment.\u201d He aggressively campaigns for Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga, whom he flanked on Monday as they addressed the press.<\/p>\n

Murathe\u2019s last public appearance was on August 14, 2022, at the Bomas of Kenya \u2013 the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) main tallying center, a day before Ruto was declared the winner.<\/p>\n

Since then, he has never reacted to Ruto\u2019s win and remained unseen in the public glare until November 4, 2022. This was when he arrived at the Integrity centre to explain to the anti-graft agency on the Sh250 million land compensation saga. His second public appearance was on Monday when Murathe was present during a press conference by the Azimio la Umoja coalition.<\/p>\n
