Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>There shall be no more meetings in peace talks in Nairobi to restore security in Eastern Congo, EAC peace facilitator Uhuru Kenyatta said. The former President made the declaration on Tuesday while closing the seven-day peace dialogue.<\/p>\n

Uhuru instead said two follow-up meetings of the concluded Nairobi peace process will be held in January at Goma and Bunia in the war-stricken Central African nation.<\/p>\n

“Kwa sababu tunaamini tutakuwa tumesonga mbele na amani yetu, tutakuwa na mikutano miwili huko Goma na nyingine Bunia,” Uhuru said. This loosely translated as, “Because we believe we shall have progressed we are going to have two meetings in Goma and Bunia.”<\/p>\n

“Hatutaki tena mrudi Nairobi, hakuna sababu hatuwezi kukutana nyumbani…tunataka tuende kwa ground tuone kama tunafaulu ama tunaanguka.”<\/p>\n

“We do not want you to come back to Nairobi, there is no reason why we should not meet at home…we shall meet at the grassroots to check if we can succeed in our peace effort.<\/p>\n

You don’t have to flee anymore, we shall be your visitors. The marathon consultations began on November 28 and were expected to end Monday. It was, however, postponed after the participants protested the delay in reimbursement of their allowances forcing Uhuru to intervene.<\/p>\n

Uhuru even threw a jibe at the organisers who he said irked him. “Watu wa EAC secretariat nataka niwashukuru lakini siku ingine msitukasirishe,mturuhusu kufanya ile kazi imetuleta pamoja sio kila siku kujadiliana maneno hayana mbele wala nyuma,” a visibly angry Uhuru said.<\/p>\n

Following the conclusion of the talks dubbed the Nairobi III inter-Congolese peace process, a raft of issues including the unconditional release of prisoners with no criminal records of atrocities or criminal convictions were sealed.<\/p>\n

Those that participated in the talks included community, civil rights, religious groups and some members of M23, who agreed to silence guns. Cessation of hostilities as well as the release of child soldiers and access to humanitarian aid was also agreed.<\/p>\n
