Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Defunct Nairobi Metropolitan Services accumulated Sh16 million in pending bills as a result of the unavailability of the exchequer of the Nairobi county government.<\/p>\n

The revelation was made today by Nairobi County CEC nominee for Mobility and Works Patrick Mbogo while appearing for vetting. \u201cThe pending bills at NMS were because of the non-availability of the exchequer from the county and not improper utilization of funds as assumed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The nominee was responding to Ngara MCA Chege Mwaura who poked holes into the NMS pending bills which accumulated when Mbogo served at the entity as Director of administration.<\/p>\n

While responding to the question, Mbogo highlighted that part Sh16 billion was also inherited by NMS from city hall when they took over in March 2020.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are able to satisfy and account that the pending bills inherited are within range and there was no misuse of funds,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

Last month, Senators commenced investigations into how the defunct NMS accumulated Sh16 million in pending bills. The lawmakers are also inquiring into all procurements done and projects undertaken by the agency for the period it existed.<\/p>\n

They will also find out whether NMS adhered to the procurement laws in procuring the goods and services. Details of whether the projects implemented by the entity were tendered for, those who won the tenders and the amounts will also be provided.<\/p>\n

Nairobi has been mentioned as one of the counties with huge pending bills, running into billions of shillings. Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja said the pending bills will be audited to reveal the legit ones.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll pending bills will be reviewed case by case before any payment is done,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
