Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Newly-appointed Gaspo Women chairman Edward Githua believes the ongoing restructure at the club will help the Gatundu-based side achieve their long-term objectives.<\/p>\n

Githua has been Gaspo’s team manager and takes the chairmanship role on a full-time basis after serving in an acting capacity. Githua, founder of the Kiambu County-based side said the position has been vacant since the inception of the team.<\/p>\n

Experienced goalkeeper Vivian Akinyi is the new team manager. Akinyi is twin sister to Sharon Aluoch, a defender at the club.<\/p>\n

“The revamping is all about complying with club licencing. Again, reshuffle is needed in order to have the required management structure,” Githua said.<\/p>\n

“As a club, we want to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League. That is only possible by winning the Women’s Premier League title. We have bolstered the squad well and grabbing an elusive league gong won’t be a tall order.”<\/p>\n

Former Kibera Soccer coach Mohammed Ibrahim replaced Domitilla Wangui as head coach before the season started. Ibrahim witnessed his side kick off the season with a 1-1 draw against Nakuru City Queens last weekend.<\/p>\n

Githua said they are also keen to have a board of directors in place to help them seek sponsorships.<\/p>\n

“We want to create a board of directors for the club. We intend to have an auditor as well. This will enable us seek funding from corporates,” he said.<\/p>\n

Githua also defended the decision to appoint Akinyi after the move was questioned by the football fraternity.<\/p>\n

“She is experienced, has been our captain and we are keen to see her grow. She is our brand ambassador and will deliver against all odds,” said Githua.<\/p>\n

The honcho called on their fans to exercise patience especially after Gaspo dropped points in their league opener. He said it was a matter of time before the team found their footing in the cut-throat league.<\/p>\n

“We apologise to our endearing followers for letting them down in the first game. It was not the best of starts but the team will deliver. Good things comes to those who wait,” he concluded.<\/p>\n
