Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>David Wafula Wakoli of Ford Kenya party has been declared the winner of the Bungoma senate seat. The by-election was conducted on December 8. The race attracted 11 contestants.<\/p>\n

Speaking after awarding the certificate to Wakoli on Friday, Bungoma county returning officer Grace Rono lauded all the contestants for keeping up throughout the campaigns and the by-election.<\/p>\n

“I thank all the aspirants that kept peace during the campaigns and the election day,” she said. Wakoli garnered 66,032, Mwambu Mabonga of UDA got 45,901 while Wafula Wamunyinyi of DAP-K got 20,519.<\/p>\n

Present during the awarding of the certificate was Kanduyi MP John Makali, Webuye East lawmaker Martin Wanyonyi, Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi, Ambassador Simon Nabukwesi, Bungoma deputy governor Jennifer Mbatiany and Bungoma county assembly Majority leader among other leaders.<\/p>\n

Wakoli thanked residents for allowing him to replace National assembly speaker Moses Wetang\u2019ula as the senator. The senator applauded Wetang\u2019ula for supporting his bid.<\/p>\n

\u201c Wetang\u2019ula held my hand throughout my political life. I promise to go in and act like him, present issues and represent Bungoma people,\u201d he said. Wakoli said Wetang\u2019ula was a great debater. He lauded Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka for his support.<\/p>\n
