Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Shujaa are seeking to improve their fortunes at the Cape Town Sevens this weekend. Damian McGrath’s charges picked up five points from the Dubai leg last weekend following credible performances.<\/p>\n

Kenya beat Canada 17-7, drew with Australia 19-19, held Great Britain 14-14 and suffered two defeats to South Africa (27-12) and Fiji (21-17) in the United Arab Emirates.<\/p>\n

Kenya are in Pool B and will open their campaign against Argentina at 3:22 pm. Shujaa and the South Americans have met four times in the past six months with the side, also known as the Pumas, winning all four encounters.<\/p>\n

They met at the Toulouse Sevens in May in France with Argentina winning 26-0, and thereafter at the Los Angeles Sevens in August, where Argentina emerged winners winning 29-7.<\/p>\n

A fortnight later during the Rugby World Sevens in South Africa, the two sides met in the round of 16 clashes and the Argentines made light work of Kenya, winning 22-7. At the Hong Kong Sevens in November, the Santiago Gomez charges were too strong winning 26-7.<\/p>\n

Kenya face powerhouses New Zealand on Saturday at 10:07 am in their second preliminary match of the day. The All Black Sevens outfit thrashed Kenya 43-0 in their last meeting during the Hong Kong Sevens last month<\/p>\n

Kenya’s final match will be against Spain at 3:26 pm. The Europeans have won the two meetings this year at the Singapore and Vancouver Sevens in April, winning 24-7 and 19-10 respectively.<\/p>\n

Head coach Damian McGrath said he hopes the improvement in performance will continue and lift Kenyans into the quarterfinals in a tricky pool. \u201cLast weekend in Dubai, we were a bit unlucky not to make it to the last eight but the confidence in the team is good and we have had a good week of training,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He lauded the improvement in the kickoff reception and defence and now wants his charges to give a full 14-minute performance. \u201cLast weekend, we led in three matches against Australia, Fiji and Great Britain and we could not get the win. This is something we are conscious of and we want to win this weekend.<\/p>\n
