Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kirinyaga Woman MP Njeri Maina has said opposition leader Raila Odinga\u2019s only act to grip power is by holding protests. “Going to the streets is the only grip to power that Raila has. He calls his supporters to the streets to destabilise the government in order to get something out of it,\u201d she said on Friday .<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Raila convened a rally at the Kamukunji Grounds, where he assured citizens that plans to convene a parallel event were still on. While addressing the rally, Raila issued a raft of demands to President William Ruto regarding the prevailing circumstance in the country.<\/p>\n

Among them was lowering the prices of maize flour and fuel. However, Azimio was hit by political tensions after a good number of high-flying politicians missed its first anti-Ruto rally in Kamukunji.<\/p>\n

It has emerged that Raila is furious that most of the members of his ODM party gave the event a wide-berth, exposing rebellion within the outfit over planned rallies.<\/p>\n

The Kirinyaga Woman Rep further bashed the ODM leader of not having numbers to hold the much hyped Jamhuri rally, which was cancelled on Thursday. \u201cAzimio called off the Jamhuri rally because they knew they don\u2019t have the numbers and it would be humiliating,\u201d Maina said.<\/p>\n

Azimio cancelled the public consultation rally scheduled for Monday, December 12. The announcement was made by the leader of the minority Opiyo Wandayi, who said Raila will be held up with other engagements before and after the Jamhuri Day fete.<\/p>\n

On Decembr 2, Raila had announced that he would convene a rally at the Kamukunji Grounds in protest of the removal of four IEBC commissioners from office.<\/p>\n

However, the plan to convene a rally parallel to the Jamhuri Day celebrations sparked a conflict within the coalition as a section of leaders under the umbrella opposed it.<\/p>\n
