Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>At least 11,000 youths in Nairobi will be employed next month to participate in the tree-planting programme. This was announced by President William Ruto who spoke at the Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium on Monday.<\/p>\n

He said his government will work closely with the Nairobi county government to ensure that the tree-planting exercise starts in the beginning of 2023.<\/p>\n

\u201cCome January next year, Nairobi county will start by employing 11, 000 to create an army that will green our city. Those who were working under the old programme of Kazi mtaani,\u201d Ruto said.<\/p>\n

The president also called on the other 46 Governors from other counties to join in the exercise. Sakaja had earlier announced that he is planning to introduce a tree-planting programme to create opportunities for young people.<\/p>\n

He said that the program will compensate for the abolished Kazi Mtaani programme and keep the youth away from crime. The program, with the help of the Kenya Forest Services (KFS) and the National Government, will have the young employees work for four days a week and earn Ksh,2,400 a week.<\/p>\n

“Our work is to create opportunities for our young people. Of course, we have re-designed the Kazi Mtaani programme but we are starting a greening programme together with the KFS and the National Government,” Sakaja said.<\/p>\n

“These young people will be able to work four days in a week and get about Sh2,400 and put it into something meaningful,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
