Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>IEBC is currently undertaking an assessment of the August 9 general election.<\/p>\n

The exercise dubbed Post Election Evaluation (PEE) is aimed at collecting views from stakeholders and development partners on how the electoral process can be strengthened.<\/p>\n

Findings and recommendations, the Commission says, will be incorporated in the strategic plan that will guide the elections operation plan for 2022-27.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe forum seeks to document experiences and evaluate lessons learnt from the 2022 general election, purpose areas for improvement to inform future policy direction and strategic planning alongside identifying key priority areas for funding,\u201d the Commission said.<\/p>\n

Speaking Tuesday when they met a section of development partners, Deputy chief executive officer Obadia Keitany said it appreciates the support in ensuring they deliver on the mandate.<\/p>\n

\u201cI request the partners to be candid and bold to suggest recommendations that will be used to guide our formulation of strategic plan and policy direction,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Commissioner Abdi Guliye who represented chairman Wafula Chebukati said it was time to relive individual and collective experiences of August 9 and in retrospect have an assessment of the electoral cycle activities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Post Election Evaluation is not only an international best practice but is anchored in the Constitution as the core mandate of IEBC…Article 88 (4)(h) obligates the Commission to facilitate observation, monitoring and evaluation of elections,” Guliye said.<\/p>\n

The preparations for the 2022 poll, Guliye stated, started after 2017.<\/p>\n
