Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Scrabble Kenya chairman Bernard Amuke will stay in office for one more month following a stalemate during the association\u2019s elections over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Two individuals, Limo Kipkemoi and David Kienja faced off for the chairman\u2019s post but recorded 41 votes each, hence failing to get an outright winner in one round.<\/p>\n

This will see Amuke, who is not defending his seat, continue to run the association until a Special General Meeting (SGM) to be held alongside the first 2023 Scrabble Kenya Open tournament on January 7\/8.<\/p>\n

The tournament will be used to select a team to the 2023 East, Central and Southern Africa Scrabble Championships that will be staged in Uganda during the Easter Holidays.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe two young men are willing to serve the association and their campaigns were well organised; that is why we had a stalemate at the polls,\u201d said Amuke.<\/p>\n

This was the association’s first polls and Amuke observed it is a step in the right direction. \u201cThis is the first time we held an election and it shows we have grown into the level I had envisioned when I took over,” said Amuke.<\/p>\n

“We have also seen an increase in the number of players and a credible election will give the new office an opportunity to serve them better.”<\/p>\n

During the elections, Mutahi Martins was elected vice chairman after beating Shadrack Kiprono while Fredrick Gitagia won the treasurer\u2019s post. Secretary General\u2019s post went to Beryl Okado, who will be deputised by Powell Kiplagat with Evelyn Gathoni the Organising Secretary. Joan Wangari beat Teresa Loch to the Marketing and Communications Secretary’s post while the ICT position was claimed by Joseph Mahinda.<\/p>\n
