Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President William Ruto now says that his administration will partner with Google in the digitisation of government services. Ruto’s revelation came following a meeting with Google Senior Vice President for Technology and Society James Manyika in Washington.<\/p>\n

The two met on the sidelines of the US-Africa leaders summit. The President noted that they had already agreed on areas of collaboration, adding that Google appreciates Kenya’s potential in utilising the digital space.<\/p>\n

“We commend Google for establishing a product development centre in Kenya that will coordinate its activities within Kenya and the Africa Region,” Ruto said.<\/p>\n

“This is an appreciation of the potential of the digital space and Kenya\u2019s skilled human capital.” Speaking on Monday during Jamhuri Day celebrations, Ruto reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment to digitise all its services.<\/p>\n

Ruto said his administration plans to build 100,000 kilometres of superhighway of internet across cities, towns and across the country to make this a reality.<\/p>\n

The head of state said, at the moment, only 15 per cent of services were being offered digitally with the remainder set to be realised soon. \u201cIt will soon be possible for Kenyans to access government services from the comfort of their homes using the internet,\u201d he said. He has also vowed that the government will support innovative ideas which are geared towards boosting economic growth<\/p>\n
