Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The anti-corruption commission has said it will partner with NHIF in the fight against corruption. The partnership aims to offer quality healthcare services to Kenyans.<\/p>\n

EACC chairperson Eliud Wabukala said the negative impact on the quality of services offered to the public, is due to the state of corruption at NHIF. \u201cUnethical conduct during procurement and administration of resources, bribery, fraud, and conflict of interest, impact negatively on the quality of service,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Wabukala urged the management to adopt initiatives, which promote ethical and selfless leadership, as mandated by Chapter Six of the Constitution. He spoke on Wednesday during an anti-corruption training with the NHIF at Lake Naivasha Resort.<\/p>\n

The EACC has established that corruption is mainly caused by negative culture, greed, conflict of interest and a dilapidated moral fabric. Acknowledging this, Wakubala called on the organisation to adopt appropriate interventions that include ethical leadership, good governance, transparency and accountability in its administration and management.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is important in enhancing accessibility of quality and affordable healthcare to ordinary members of the public,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The chairperson said the three-day training will offer an opportunity to better understand risks and gaps in procurement processes that are vulnerable to corruption and ethical breaches. He further said they will also come up with mitigation measures in respect to the management and administration of NHIF.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish to reiterate that the commission is committed to working with NHIF in carrying out capacity building initiatives aimed at preventing corruption, enhancing integrity standards and promote ethics in the management and administration,\u201d Wabukala said. Present was NHIF board chairperson Lewis Nguyai and CEO Peter Kamunyo.<\/p>\n
