Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Strathmore Scorpions striker Grace Bwire reckons that 2022 was a successful year after her unmatched achievements and can’t wait for further improvements next season. Despite playing in her first season in the Women’s Hockey Premier League, the former Blazers attacker is on course to bag the top scorer’s award.<\/p>\n

Bwire has managed eight goals thus far (two for Blazers and six at Strathmore), helping Scorpions clinch the national title a month ago. Strathmore still have two games to play. Debrah Achieng, who turns up for Lakers is second with five goals. The Kisumu-based side are already done with their fixtures.<\/p>\n

“My season is not done yet. Hitting double figures will be satisfying and I believe it is possible,” the soft-spoken athlete said. The 21-year old was crucial as Scorpions romped to their maiden league title in an unbeaten run.<\/p>\n

Bwire played for Multimedia University team before joining Blazers at the start of the season. Her impressive performances at the former champions presented her with a chance to join Scorpions in August, an offer she couldn’t turn down.<\/p>\n

The rookie made her debut for the national team in the test series against Uganda last year and went on to score a hat-trick. She was picked for the African Nations Championship in January where she made four appearances.<\/p>\n

“Playing in a major tournament in Ghana is an unforgettable experience. It was the moment I realised I have the potential to rule the world and my quest for success was greater than never before,” she said. She also made Team Kenya to the Commonwealth Games where she says she learnt vital lessons despite Kenya’s insipid performance.<\/p>\n

“Coming up against the best players in Europe was an achievement on it’s own. Being patient with the ball, scoring without hitting the ball and awareness in the ‘D’ were among the lessons I learnt. I can only get better. Things have happened so fast but a lot more is coming.” At the moment, Bwire is eager to don the Scorpions’ colours in the African Club Championships in South Africa February 2023.<\/p>\n
