Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kanu secretary General Nick Salat has fired back at his boss Gideon Moi over a decision to suspend him as the party’s Secretary General. Salat said Moi has no mandate to suspend him from the party and, \u201cIf there is anyone to leave Kanu then it is Moi, not me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has no authority to suspend me from the party. We have the same powers in the party,\u201d Salat said in a hard-hitting statement.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, the party chairman said the National Executive Council (NEC) had ratified a decision to suspend the official over an alleged violation of the party\u2019s Constitution.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is to notify you that in the National Executive Council on December 15, 2022, several complaints on your conduct and violation of the party constitution were placed before the members for discussion,\u201d reads the letter addressed to Salat.<\/p>\n

Laying bare the circumstances that occasioned the move, the SG who said attended Thursday\u2019s Nakuru meeting, claimed he was not even accorded time to explain himself.<\/p>\n

He claimed he took on the chairman putting him to task over the dwindling fortunes of the party and the manner in which he has been running it. \u201cI was in the meeting. I questioned him directly that we could not continue this way, our returns are diminishing,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

He said it was sad that from having more than 40 MPs several years ago, the number had dropped to six. However, Moi noted the complaints raised against the SG were grave and that the jurisdiction to deal with matters constituting disciplinary measures lies with the Disciplinary Committee created under Article 34 of the constitution.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe committee resolved to suspend forthwith from carrying out or performing your duties as the Party\u2019s Secretary General pending the determination of the disciplinary proceedings,\u201d reads the letter.<\/p>\n

The disciplinary proceedings will also be determined within 30 days from the date hereof. Salat further pledged support for President William Ruto, saying the Azimio la Umoja coalition, of which Kanu was a member, was already dead.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is my position in the party that we ought to support Ruto and the government of the day. We cannot continue remaining in the opposition,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
