Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The famous Kenya Technical Trainers College (KTTC) has been renamed. It will now be referred to as the Kenya School of Technical Vocational Education and Training (KSTVET).<\/p>\n

The institution’s principal Edwin Tarno said this was in conformity with Legal Order 123 of 2022 and Presidential Order 1 of 2022. “KTTC has been rebranded with a redefined and expanded mandate to take over the development and capacity building of Tvet practitioners in Kenya,” Tarno said.<\/p>\n

It will now be a professional development and capacity-building body of TVET institutions in the country. The college opened its doors to the first students in 1978. Former President Daniel Moi officially opened it in March 1979.<\/p>\n

Since then, the college has continued to develop, in terms of courses and student enrollment. Among its mandates include training technical teachers for technical institutions.<\/p>\n

There have been plans to relocate the Gigiri-based college to Ngong to pave way for the establishment of an exclusive diplomatic enclave. A modern college was built at a cost of Sh4.5 billion.<\/p>\n

The government through former Principal Secretary Margaret Mwakima argued that the move was in compliance with the Vienna convention Kenya being a signatory which requires nations to among other things ensure areas reserved for diplomatic missions have proper security and set up. Gigiri is the home to United Nations Environment Programme (Unep) headquarters and United Nations Human Settlement and US Embassy among others.<\/p>\n
