Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Two Kenya Ports Authority players were feted as the 2022 Africa Women\u2019s Champions Cup ended in Maputo, Mozambique on Saturday. Centre Medina Okot bagged the best rebounder award with Nigerian play-maker Ifunaya Okoro taking the event\u2019s top-scorers\u2019 award.<\/p>\n

Okoro was also named in the All-Tournament team alongside Agar Ahmed and Reem Mousa (Sporting) and Ingvild Mucauro, Eleuteria Lhavanguane (Costa). The ceremony was held at the Pavilhao da Universidade Eduardo after the final, won by Alexandria Sporting Club (ASC) of Egypt.<\/p>\n

KPA lost 71-51 to AS Ville De Dakar of Senegal in the sixth-place playoff and coach Anthony Ojukwu attributed the defeat to mental lapses. \u201cWe really wanted a top five finish but mental lapses and fatigue was our undoing,\u201d Ojuku said, adding: \u201cIt was not easy as the team was tested to the limits. Lessons learnt and strengths highlighted and we come back better.\u201d<\/p>\n

ASC became the first Egyptian side to be crowned the African champions after beating Costa do Sol of Mozambique 65-58 in the finals. The porters\u2019 best placing in the tournament remains fifth place at the 2007 edition in Luanda, Angola.<\/p>\n

KPA centre Medina Okot said: \u201cI tried though it was hard. But it taught me what I am supposed to work on to be a better player. Ferroviaro Maputo of Mozambique beat five-time champions Inter Clube of Angola 71-67 to claim the bronze medal.<\/p>\n
