Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kanu chairman Gideon Moi on Sunday held a meeting with the party’s regional chairpersons amidst fighting with secretary general Nick Salat. In a statement following the meeting Moi said they are committed to restructuring the party to improve its efficiency.<\/p>\n

This, he said will be done without “fear or favour”. He added that they also aim to re-energise the party’s support both at the grassroots and national level.<\/p>\n

“We are fully devoted to restructuring our party and enhancing our operational efficiency in order to revitalize our grassroots as well as national support. And we will do this without fear or favour,” Moi said.<\/p>\n

The Kanu party leader met Branch chairpersons at Kabarak in Nakuru County. The meeting comes following a public show of might that has seen Moi and Salat engage in a heated exchange. The fight saw Moi suspend Salat as the party’s SG pending disciplinary action.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is to notify you that in the National Executive Council on December 15, 2022, several complaints on your conduct and violation of the party constitution were placed before the members for discussion,\u201d read the letter addressed to Salat.<\/p>\n

While noting the complaints appeared serious, Gideon said the jurisdiction to deal with matters constituting disciplinary measures lies with the Disciplinary Committee created under Article 34 of the constitution.<\/p>\n

As the result, the NEC committee resolved to suspend Salat. \u201cThe committee resolved to suspend forthwith from carrying out or performing your duties as the Party\u2019s Secretary General pending the determination of the disciplinary proceedings.\u201d The suspension came a day after Salat announced that Kanu party will be conducting its election early in next year.<\/p>\n
