Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President William Ruto is set to launch a major tree planting campaign in Ngong hills, Kajiado county on Wednesday. The tree planting campaign comes as the Head of State celebrates his 56th birthday.<\/p>\n

On October 15, Ruto had urged Kenyan parents to plant 100 trees during their children’s birthday celebrations. He spoke during the the commissioning of Thiba dam in Kirinyaga.<\/p>\n

“Every parent should plant 100 trees for their child during birthday celebrations. We are facing a severe drought that has never been witnessed in 40 years as a result of climate change,” Ruto said.<\/p>\n

The President said this will help curb the drought ravaging through different counties across the country. He said his administration targets to plant up to five billion trees in a bid to tackle climate change.<\/p>\n

“Water increment goes hand-in-hand with conserving the environment. As a government we purpose to plant five billion trees in bid to combat climate change,” Ruto said.<\/p>\n

The President called on all Kenyans to join in the challenge and inculcate the culture of tree planting. He said every Kenyan should take up the duty of planting at least 100 trees in their farms and homes to help meet the five billion target.<\/p>\n
