Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi wants IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati to be given special recognition for the manner he handled the 2022 General Elections.<\/p>\n

Mudavadi argued that the country would have plunged into chaos after the elections if Chebukati and Commissioners Molu Boya and Abdi Guliye would have allowed outside forces to interfere with the poll process.<\/p>\n

Speaking during an interview with TV47 on Friday, Mudavadi added that the Supreme Court should also get special recognition for preventing the country from going through a crisis.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were attempts to interfere with the process at Bomas. The country could have been thrown into chaos but he was firm and we survived by a whisker,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Mudavadi\u2019s remarks came barely two days after Radio Africa Group unveiled Chebukati as the 2022 Star Person of the Year. The IEBC chair has been hailed for averting a potential catastrophe that could have pushed Kenya to the brink of collapse.<\/p>\n

He claimed top security agents and political operatives visited him in an attempt to have him alter the presidential results. Despite the pressure from the country’s National Security Advisory Council to ‘moderate’ the presidential results for a possible run-off in the event President William Ruto had won, Chebukati stood firm against the push.<\/p>\n

In the interview, Mudavadi commended Chebukati and the two commissioners for being \u201ckeen to ensure there was justice and peace in the country.\u201d \u201cThe situation in Bomas was very unfortunate. We should not go back there again,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

During Jamhuri Day celebrations, Ruto rewarded Chebukati, Boya and Guliye. Chebukati was awarded the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH) while Commissioners Molu and Guliye were awarded Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS).<\/p>\n

Chebukati, Guliye and Molu’s terms end in January 2023. The two commissioners backed the results announced by Chebukati following the August 9 presidential election, which declared Ruto president. Four other commissioners led by vice chairperson Juliana Cherera disowned the results. Three have since resigned.<\/p>\n
