Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Meru County Assembly has claimed governor Kawira Mwangaza violated the law at least once per day from September 6 to November 9.<\/p>\n

Through lawyer Muthomi Thiankolu, the assembly said there were 62 violations of the Constitution, all committed within 64 days.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer ouster revolves around gross violation of the Constitution and gross misconduct,\u201d Thiankolu told the Senate Special Committee that will determine whether accusations levelled against the governor warrant her removal.<\/p>\n

Kawira became the first county boss to be impeached barely three months after being sworn in.<\/p>\n

All 67 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) present during the impeachment session voted to remove her over abuse of office claims.<\/p>\n

In his submissions, Thiankolu said Under the first charge, there were 19 violations, 30 under the second charge, four in the third charge, three charges in the fourth charge and six gross violations in the final cluster of the charge.<\/p>\n

The lawyer added that the 11-member committee should not be made to think Kawira was impeached because she is an independent candidate.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf she makes that claim, the question we will need to ask is why all independent MCAs voted to impeach her,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

He added that Kawira also declined to appear before the assembly to defend herself against accusations levelled against her.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe governor should also not say she was being targeted because she is a woman. Even the female MCAs voted to impeach her,\u201d he added.Meru County Assembly has been allocated three and a half hours to prosecute its case. It has lined up three witnesses.<\/p>\n
