Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>More than 30 drivers are set to be arrested by the National Transport and Safety Authority for drunk driving. According to a notice published in the dailies, the drivers were found driving under the influence of alcohol.<\/p>\n

\u201cFour of the drivers refused to blow the alcoblow device while others even refused to test,\u201d the notice reads.<\/p>\n

The drivers’ names have been published alongside their vehicle registration numbers and date of conduct. The authority went ahead to publish their alcohol levels after being tested.<\/p>\n

The driver with the highest alcohol level had 0.97\/ 0.35. Police said the tests will be imposed on various roads after the new law governing the practice was ratified at various levels.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will be all over at any time. We have all the needed gadgets to carry out the operations for the sake of the road users in general,\u201d Nairobi police boss James Mugera said.<\/p>\n

The developments came after retired President Uhuru Kenyatta in June 2022 signed the Traffic (Amendment) Bill 2021 into law. Under the new law, motorists found guilty of drunk driving risk a fine not exceeding Sh100,000, a two-year prison term, or both.<\/p>\n

A breathalyzer estimates the alcohol content in one’s blood from a breath sample. No driver is allowed to handle a vehicle if they have consumed alcohol in excess of 35 microgrammes per 100 milliliters of breath, 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood and 107 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of urine.<\/p>\n
