Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has weighed in on the concluded senate hearing on the impeachment of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza by MCAs. Kaluma wondered whether there were different stipulated standards on how to deal with different genders in leadership when presented before the Special Senate sittings.<\/p>\n

“Do we have different standards for male and female leaders,” he said in a statement on Thursday.<\/p>\n

“I’ve never seen MPs in the Senate give male governors those spiritual, demeaning lectures to be meek and always agree with other leaders, even where those other leaders are engaged in blackmail, corrupt illegal pursuits.”<\/p>\n

His remarks come after the conclusion of Mwangaza’s hearing on Wednesday, which was before an 11-member Special Select Committee led by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale. At some point, Khalwale advised Mwangaza to be careful in her administrative ways, in case the Senate’s verdict favours her.<\/p>\n

“You are treating Meru like personal property that is why you do not respect some government procedures. In case you get lucky, you need to walk in a straight path,” Khalwale said.<\/p>\n

In her response, Mwangaza said she stood guided. The hearing began on Monday, after her impeachment on December 14. by 67 of the 69 MCAs. The MCAs had accused her of nepotism and four other issues related to abuse of office.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Kawira denied all the charges before the committee saying she is a victim of blackmail. The committee retreated to write a report and come up with the verdict. Mwangaza is set to know her fate today (Friday).<\/p>\n
