Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza could not hold back her tears after the Senate Committee dismissed charges against her. Mwangaza wiped her tears as the panel chairperson Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale read out the verdict.<\/p>\n

The governor was in the senate chambers when the final verdict was read out. The panel concluded hearings on Wednesday before retreating to write its verdict.<\/p>\n

Kawira was on December 14 impeached by 67 of the 69 MCAs that were present in the Meru County Assembly. The ward reps accused the governor of gross misconduct and abuse of office, all broken down to five charges.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Kawira pleaded not guilty to the charges before the special committee saying she is a victim of blackmail. The MCAs accused her of committing at least one constitutional violation on each of the 64 days she has been in power.<\/p>\n

Through lawyer Muthomi Thiankolu, the assembly said there were 62 violations of the Constitution, all committed within 64 days. \u201cHer ouster revolves around gross violation of the Constitution and gross misconduct,\u201d Thiankolu told the Senate Special Committee.<\/p>\n

Kawira became the first county boss to be impeached barely three months after being sworn in. All 67 Members of the County Assembly present during the impeachment session voted to remove her over abuse of office claims.<\/p>\n
