Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kanu has named a team of six members of its National Disciplinary Committee to deliberate on the case against suspended party Secretary-General Nick Salat.<\/p>\n

The Committee which will be chaired by Kilgoris MP Julius Sunkuli, will look into accusations against Salat which include gross misconduct and violation of the party constitution.<\/p>\n

Other members include Ali Ogle, Joshua Mukirae, Gladwell Tungo (Vice Chairperson), Arnold Otieno (secretary) and Josephine Leado.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Friday, Kanu Director of Communication Joseph Towett said the decision by the National Executive Council (NEC) to refer Salat’s case to the Disciplinary Committee was informed by two complaints lodged against him.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the aforementioned meeting, Salat, visibly inebriated, made insolent remarks that belittled the person, stature, and office of the National Chairman (Gideon Moi),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On December 15, 2022, the Kenya African National Union (KANU) party suspended Salat as its Secretary-General.<\/p>\n

In a letter by the party leader,Moi said the party had resolved to dismiss Salat owing to claims of misconduct.<\/p>\n

The decision by the NEC to refer Salat\u2019s case to the Disciplinary Committee was informed by two complaints lodged by the KANU MCA and PWD Caucuses through their respective Chairpersons, Handman Saya and Adinuur Ali.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s alleged that Salat made insolent remarks that belittled the person, stature and office of the National Chairman.<\/p>\n

He also berated the party\u2019s long-term partner organisations in the presence of their senior international officials despite our longstanding cordial relationship and cooperation.<\/p>\n

The announcement by KANU came after conflicting announcements by Salat in his position as the SG.<\/p>\n

He had announced that the party would be carrying out its elections next year with a major reshuffle in the outfit\u2019s leadership expected.<\/p>\n

The Committee which will look into accusations against Salat which include gross misconduct and violation of the party constitution.<\/p>\n

Towett in his statement notes that Kanu as a party believes in the rule of law, we have set out clearly demarcated internal disciplinary systems.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have clear structures and procedures anchored on the principles of natural justice, the party\u2019s constitution and other applicable law. Therefore, Salat will be accorded fair and impartial hearing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
