Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kenya\u2019s Permanent Representative to the UN, New York Martin Kimani has revealed that Kenya has finished its two-year term in the security council. Kimani who was also the President of the Security Council for October 2021 said the country has taken major strides.<\/p>\n

“Six hours to go and Kenya\u2019s 2-year term in the Security Council will be finished,” Kimani said on December 31, 2022.<\/p>\n

Having assumed her position as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Kenya held the monthly rotational presidency of the Council for October 2021.<\/p>\n

“I will communicate some of the important lessons we learned in the New Year. But for now, all I feel is overwhelming gratitude for the opportunity,” Kimani added.<\/p>\n

In 2021, Kimani said Kenya’s overriding agenda at the UN Security Council is to offer ideas and solutions to global peace and security. This targeted areas such as the Horn of Africa and the troubled Sahel region.<\/p>\n

Kimani said Kenya is encouraging the UN Security Council to work closely with Africa. Alongside his engagement at the UNSC, former president Uhuru Kenyatta held bilateral talks with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guteress.<\/p>\n

He witnessed the signing of a trade agreement between Kenya’s private sector and a consortium of American companies during his two-day visit. In the meeting with Guteress, the former President and the UN boss discussed several subjects of mutual interest to Kenya and the UN among them the global response to Covid-19.<\/p>\n
