Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President William Ruto has said the banditry menace in some parts of the country is not severe enough to require the deployment of Kenya Defence Forces.<\/p>\n

Speaking in a round table interview with media houses on Wednesday at State House, President Ruto said the banditry situation is bad but has not reached the point to involve KDF.<\/p>\n

Ruto was answering a question asked by one of the journalists about past remarks by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki about involving the KDF to fight bandits.<\/p>\n

“We cannot afford to have a country where citizens live in constant fear and we will not spare any effort even if it means using the KDF,” Kindiki said then. The Constitution of Kenya 2010 states that the KDF is only released as the last resort but with the approval of National Assembly Article 241, 3(c).<\/p>\n

“It is serious but it has not reached the threshold for us to go to Parliament to get KDF involved, we, however, are sharing information from intelligence from all sides, we are sharing facilities and resources,” President Ruto said. The Head of State however said they are making decisions to have security installations in some of the areas.<\/p>\n

“For example in the North Rift, we are going to have some of the training facilities for our security agents to cement government presence in some of those areas and to make sure that whenever we need to deploy we are not deploying from afar,” he said.<\/p>\n
