Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has said President William Ruto’s enemies will be the people of Kenya.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Friday, Ngunyi said this will come as a result of the removal of subsidies.<\/p>\n

Since his inauguration in September 2022, Ruto has removed three subsidies including that on food, fuel and electricity.<\/p>\n

The President said the economy could not sustain them.<\/p>\n

Ngunyi described President Ruto’s economic models as bold and not popular, adding that politics are driven by popular choices.<\/p>\n

“The enemy of William Ruto will be the people. His economic models are bold. Not popular. Economics is about the bold decisions. Politics is driven by popular choices,” he said.<\/p>\n

He added:<\/p>\n

“Failure to balance the two will lead to revolt. The masses are irrational. You remove subsidies, you create enemies.”<\/p>\n

Addressing the nation on January 1, at the State House in Mombasa, Ruto said the removal of the subsidies has had a positive impact on the economy.<\/p>\n

“I have had to take bold measures to ensure the country is recovering. The removal of subsidies was necessary to get our country back on the economic recovery,” Ruto said.<\/p>\n

The President added that there was no way the country would have continued with subsidies and remained afloat economically.<\/p>\n

Ruto on Wednesday further said the recovery on the living costs needed to be systematic.<\/p>\n

“If we want to sort out the problem of the rising cost of living, there are no miracles, we must do it systematically.”<\/p>\n
