Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Governor Jonathan Bii of Uasin Gishu and Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei have expressed anger over rising crime incidents in the county that is home to President William Ruto.<\/p>\n

The county police commander Ayub Gitonga has been transferred and his position taken up by Moses Mureithi who reported to the area on Friday. Bii and Shollei who spoke at separate functions claimed that some rogue police officers are suspected to be involved in robbery incidents in parts of the town.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will not accept that to continue and we urge the new police chief to act immediately and ensure that action is taken against the criminal gangs operating in this region,\u201d Bii said.<\/p>\n

Shollei spoke at Naiberi market where residents had two days ago protested over increasing cases of robberies at the market. Governor Bii said the county had for long been peaceful but the insecurity trend had been worrying in the recent past.<\/p>\n

Bii was speaking in Kesses area where he was with local MP Julius Rutto. He said he would call for a meeting with security chiefs in the county along with other leaders so that they chart the way forward.<\/p>\n

He said the insecurity problem was undermining his efforts to attract investors to the county and that plans to elevate the town to city status would also be affected.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will not attract investors if there is insecurity in this town,\u201d Bii said. Several Mpesa shops and supermarkets have been targeted in the region.<\/p>\n
