Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President William Ruto has told Inspector General Japhet Koome to protect police funds at all cost, even if he will have to use a gun.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the passing out of General Service Unit officers at the NPC Embakasi B Campus, Ruto said police wellness should be a priority.<\/p>\n

“Inspector General uwe mwadilifu, ata ikifika mahali lazima utumie bunduki kulinda pesa ya askari fanya hivyo ndio wakora wasipatikane katika hio sehemu,” he said.<\/p>\n

This loosely translates to: “I urge the IG to be obedient, if you’ll have to use a gun to protect money meant for the police, do it so that thugs don’t come close to that department.”<\/p>\n

Ruto urged the officials to be keen with the officers at the Procurement, as corruption is paramount in the department.<\/p>\n

“Mchunge pale kwa procurenent, shetani wa ufisadi anaishi hapo, hapo ndio pesa ya hawa askari itaibiwa na hawatapeata haki yao. (Be keen with the procurement department, the corruption devil lives there. Police funds will be stolen and they will not get their rights to equipment).”<\/p>\n

President Ruto presided over the passing out parade of 991 General Service Unit officers.<\/p>\n

He urged them to work together for the betterment of the security in the country.<\/p>\n

“After your graduation today, you will be joining your colleagues in the high calling of service all in keeping with the police motto – Utimishi kwa wote,” he said.<\/p>\n

The Head of State said the GSU will now join others which will make a total of 110,000 police in the country. He also urged them to be their brother’s keeper.<\/p>\n

The recruits had in the last nine months gone through vigorous training.<\/p>\n

This is the third group to graduate this week, all presided over by the President.<\/p>\n
