Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has said Azimio chief Raila Odinga’s opinion to have the number of churches reduced like Rwanda was what gave UDA mileage in the August 9 election. Speaking at an interview with K24 on Thursday, Ngunjiri said Raila’s remarks brought UDA the 200,000 winning votes in Nakuru county.<\/p>\n

“The last thing that got us those 200,000 votes is when Raila’s wife said they are going to make sure churches in Kenya are going to be reduced like those in Rwanda, that gave us a lot of mileage,” he said.<\/p>\n

Ngunjiri said Raila only reiterated what his wife Ida Odinga had said. “Raila repeated this when came to Nakuru, saying there are permanent churches brought by wazungu, which were going to be dealt with,” he said.<\/p>\n

Ngunjiri said the church saw what Raila said as a threat. “The church gave us many votes because of that threat,” he said. Rwanda President Paul Kagame closed more than 6,000 churches and mosques in his country. Kagame did so on grounds that churches were only businesses, playing with the faith of the congregants.<\/p>\n
